Or resignation for the fact that regardless of what you say and/or do, people won't listen. People continue on their way to destruction, no matter how nicely I or anyone try to present a viewpoint. I Here's some info: Years ago-or is it months ago, there was an intro that described a flight attendant giving the spiel that flight attendants always give when a plane is ready to depart. Insert gracious hand gestures wherever appropriate: What this is: an international online discussion forum for queer women. What this isn't: a chat room, a pick-up spot, or a place for personal ads. First, look at the top of this, and click "All." That lets you what most of us, which are posts from all over tarnation, not just your hometown. Below you several conversations in progress. We these "Threads" Click on a line to read the body of text. If you want to reply to that post, click on the word "reply" Your reply appear under the post dots to the right. In this way, conversations can continue for days. It is different from chat rooms or IMing because people only check the forum for a few minutes a day. This allows of us at work to participate in conversations with fellow dykes/queer women without the forum being all-consuming. When you click "compose new thread" you are doing something ed "top-posting." If you're going to top-post, please do so only to start a new topic of conversation. To top post multiple threads in a row is seen as rude and unnecessary. It'll probably raise an unwanted red. You are most welcome to participate in the conversations already in progress. The little red or green you sometimes beside a post are ratings. Ratings are a way for forum folk to indicate their agreement or disagreement with a post without actually posting a response. You a little "rate" word to click in the reading window. When someone starts a conversational thread, it often leads naturally into something. There are some comics here. Occasionally the forum is invaded by right wingers/instigators/fundamentalists who like to bait us, or tell us we're all going to Hades. You get some serious types who overstate the obvious, shy folk who pop in and out, bi-curious types who think this is a pick up joint, and a few trolls who seem to get a voyeuristic thrill out of eavesdropping on queers. It's varied. Weekends are slow. Weekdays there is more activity. Your mileage vary. Welcome! find that irritating. My mood on the reality of that fluctuates. Sometimes I let it go and don't care about it. Other times, it just drives me insane. And that's my problem, not theirs. I've found that some people tend to react positively to blunt honesty. Of course, there are people who take that as a personal affront and get defensive. It's a shot. I suppose I could be less abrasive, but more often than not I have little for winded dissertations when a simple spoken paragraph do the trick. Also, my problem and not theirs. I'm at least lucid enough to recognize that my approach can be seen as, unpleasant, arrogant, et al. But I'm just not a proponent of wasting time when it comes to important things. I'm not entirely sure that part of me is malleable anymore. I think I might be too jaded, having witnessed a fair amount of heartache due to inaction. on As a general rule in my regular life, I don't really seek to influence people in any way. It seems too wrought with precarious twists and turns I prefer not to navigate. I tend to let people do as they, unless they ask for my counsel. On a forum like this, where opinions are simply text on a screen I would that they would be taken for what they are words on a screen. I get nothing out of posting my opinions on a personal level. I know what my viewpoints on the majority of topics are. That's not to say that they aren't subject to change. I would be remiss to say that I didn't enjoy reading the thoughts of others, because I do. I always have. I want to know about other people, for better or for worse. Perhaps it's some sort of cerebral masturbation on my part, a relinquishing of decision making that we're all burdened with in real life. I tell people things they don't want to hear. I always have. I try my best to be honest, but sometimes it just comes across as condescending. Something to fix, I suppose.
